019 Power of Morning Routines
Winning the day begins before you ever touch your phone; it starts with a disciplined morning routine that focuses on mind, body, and spirit. By shifting your mindset from "spending" time to "investing" it for a return, you can unlock a level of efficiency that most people never achieve.
The 800% Mindset: Mastering Your Morning and Your Minutes
I’ve got a question for you: Are you living your life on autopilot, or are you actually in the driver’s seat? 🏎️
Recently, I sat down with a good friend of mine, Glenn Lundy. If you don't know Glenn, he’s the founder of the 800% Elite Automotive Club, a father of nine (yes, nine!), and the creator of "The Morning 5." He went from being homeless to building a global movement, and he did it by mastering the first few hours of his day.
We talked about everything from biological habit-wiring to why your favorite TV show might actually be an "investment" in your marriage. If you’re a "recovering perfectionist" like me, you probably think you need a massive overhaul to change your life. 🛑 Hogwash.
It’s about the small, daily reps. Let's dive in.
What are "The Morning 5"?
Most people wake up and immediately surrender their peace to their smartphone. Glenn argues that anyone who has reached a high level of success has a routine that taps into the mind, body, and spirit. 🧠💪🙏
His "Morning 5" framework is deceptively simple:
Never hit the snooze button. (Winning your first battle of the day).
Don’t touch your phone. (Protecting your mental space).
Write down gratitude and goals. (Anchoring your focus).
Physical exercise. (Taking care of the hardware).
Send an encouraging message. (Investing in others).
Is it easy? No! Is it worth it? Absolutely!!
Information Gain Callout: Glenn’s team used these principles to build an entire app in just 14 days with zero prior experience, using only voice prompts and AI. It’s proof that when you have the right foundation, you can execute at a speed that seems impossible.
Why 67 Days is the Magic Number for Habits
We’ve all heard it takes 21 days to build a habit. Well, according to research Glenn shared from Harvard and Yale, that’s not quite right. Biologically, it actually takes 67 days to create a new neural pathway.
This is where most people fail. They hit the one-month mark, it still feels hard, and they quit. But if you know the finish line is at 67 days, you can push through. 🏃♂️
Fact it, don’t feel it. Don’t wait for motivation to show up. Put in the reps for 67 straight days until the habit becomes easier to do than not to do. Every. Single. Day.
Are You Spending Your Time or Investing It?
Oof. This part of our conversation hit me like a ton of bricks. 🤯
There is a massive difference between investing and spending:
Invest: Putting energy or time into something with the expectation of a return.
Spend: A deficit. A minus.
Glenn realized he was "investing" in his business but only "spending" time with his family. When you "spend" time with your kids, you’re just checking a box. When you invest in them, you’re looking for a return—like joy, connection, or growth.
Information Gain Callout: You don't need "equal" time for every investment. Glenn can invest $8 in a jar of slime for his five-year-old and get a massive return of joy, whereas his 15-year-old might need an hour in the car. It’s about the return, not the amount of the "spend."
The 17-Minute Rule for Becoming an Expert
If you feel overwhelmed by tech or AI, Glenn has a rule that will change your perspective: Invest 17 minutes a day. ⏳
Studies show that if you invest just 17 minutes a day in learning anything—whether it's a new language, a golf swing, or ChatGPT—you will be more expert than 95% of the population within 12 months.
We don't need more time; we need more intentionality.
